The Oulu dialect asking AlakkoNo abstract? is an invitation to play and explore.

The exhibition from the collections of the Oulu Art Museum encourages you to approach abstract art and its elements with a curious imagination. The exhibition explores the dimensions of non-presentational art in a functional and interactive way. The exhibition tickles the senses and makes interpretations in a playful way.

Artworks by more than 50 artists from 1965 to 2025 are on display, with a focus on artists from the North, not forgetting national representation. Visual artist Anu Halmesmaa has created a commissioned work inviting the public to play, which has been acquired for the collection from the Maija-Liisa Niemi Fund. The project also involves the Oulu Art School, Oulu University of Applied Sciences and the University of Oulu.
